Stalin Hitler Mussolini Essay -- essays research papers
Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Benito Mussolini were all famous leaders of their time. When the word famous is mentioned for their description, it is not necessarily good. In fact none of them were known for anything good. You could say they were inâ⬠famousâ⬠. They all lead during the same time period; during the early to mid 1900s. Stalin was part of the Russians, Mussolini was with the Italians, and Hitler was with the Germans. à à à à à Joseph Stalin, of Russia, was completely uninterested in ideological debates, as he wanted to establish his own power within the Soviet system. Stalin had Trotsky expelled and ousted Bukharin in order for this to occur. Because of his torture technique for people to confess their crimes, about 10 million Russians were arrested in the late 1930s. Stalin even sent an assassin to kill Trotsky in 1940. In 1928, Stalin implemented the Five-Year Plan to expand Russia into an industrial nation. In order to find money for this, Stalin forced the kulaks, or wealthy peasants, to work on the farms. All of this brought the Soviet Union to a major industrial power in the end of the 1930s, while all others were in a devastating economic depression. à à à à à Benito adopted his fatherââ¬â¢s Socialist beliefs. His views began to change during the war when Mussolini broke with his fellow Socialists and supported Italyââ¬â¢s entrance into the war. He formed the National Fascist Party, which fought leftist organizations. The...

In order to evaluate Nikkei as a viable choice, Kim has to calculate the cost of capital for the company and make sure assumptions are a direct function from the estimates. The cost of capital calculation or WAC helps to see if an investment is worthwhile to undertake. However, the assumptions made to calculate WAC, in this case, are the underlying problem because some of the assumptions made are incorrect. Analysis Nikkei held a meeting to discuss company performance at 2011 end of fiscal year.In the meeting, management discussed their strategy to improve revenues and net income by developing more athletic shoe products in the misplaced segment of selling shoes at $70-$90 a pair. The company also planned to increase sales for its apparel line, which it had performed really well lately. Management was also concern in the drop of market share from 48%, in 1997, to 42% in 2000. Nikkei was also committed to make an ef fort in controlling company expenses more diligently. Yet, Nine's investment value was not clear to Kim Ford. Analysts' reports had mixed recommendations about the value of the company. Some analysts were recommending buying the stock and some others were recommending holding the stock. Different recommendations were based on the company's declining performance and the proposed strategies to improve the same. Weakening revenues and net income since 1997 are displayed in their firm's consolidated statement showing an improvement in the later years as well. Therefore, Ford had to run her own calculations. Kim Ford performed a discounted cash flow forecast that resulted in a 12% discount rate with an overvalued estimate for Nikkei at the current share price.Ford also performed a quick sensitivity analysis that showed Nikkei was undervalued. Ford figured the best way to make a choice about Nikkei is by calculating the cost of capital cause Nikkei is financed through equity and debt. Ford asked her assistant, Johanna Cohen, to estimate Nine's cost of capital. WAC is the cost of capital for a firm as a whole and can be interpreted as the required return on the overall firm (Ross, Westfield & Jordan, 2010). Some of the assumptions made by Johanna Cohen in calculating the cost of capital are incorrect. As stated before, the correct assumptions are necessary in order to make the right choice. Johanna used the book values for equity and debt. While book values are acceptable values for debt at times, book values for equity are not. Book values may be important from an accounting point of view but market values are forward looking. Therefore, Johanna should have calculated the equity market value. The debt market value calculated by Johanna is also slightly incorrect. Johanna did not include Redeemable Preferred Stock in her calculation.Consequently, Cone's To figure out the cost of equity Johanna used CAMP, a widely used method. CAMP tells what to expect in regards to fut ure returns on a share of stock. Johanna did right by using this method; however, her calculations include an average for six years on Betas and it should be an average for five years, since the 6th year is not finished. In addition, the 5. 74% rate on 20- year treasury bonds is sufficient to use as the risk-free rate. The geometric mean for current equity risk premiums is more representative to use.Under the cost of debt calculation, Johanna missed a simpler way to calculate the cost of debt. ââ¬Å"The cost of debt is simply the interest rate the firm must pay on new borrowing. For example, if the firm already has bonds outstanding, then the yield to maturity on those bonds is the market required rate on the firm's debtâ⬠(Ross et al, 2010). Johanna could have simply calculated the YET on Nine's bonds. Since some of Cone's assumptions are incorrect, the cost of capital calculation does not reflect an accurate result. Personal Statement On Leadership And Leadership - 1226 Words
1. Leadership is about people and people are messy. Each person has their own career aspirations, personal life issues, and motivators. It is incumbent on a leader to bring the individuals together, focus their efforts on a clear objective, provide them with the necessary training and equipment to achieve the objective, and coach them along the way as needed. The Old Man and My Cow Suit free essay sample
Hello, my name is Vincent, and I learned one of my biggest life lessons while being in a cow suit. After 18 months of working at Chick-fil-A, I became jaded about the smell of chicken nuggets and French fries. I had never in my life seen the ââ¬Å"five second ruleâ⬠applied so adamantly when customers were not watching, and I have to say, getting to smell previews of Cplorados Amendment 64 during breaks from time to time was definitely ââ¬Å"too dope.â⬠I even got lucky enough to get ââ¬Å"conedâ⬠a couple of times, a come-and-go fad that my fellow teenagers seem to get a kick out of by smashing their ice cream cone into their serverââ¬â¢s hand and then driving away. By all means, slaving over hot frying pans and dealing with impolite customers taught me a lot. Money doesnââ¬â¢t come easy, and the real world isnââ¬â¢t nice. But thatââ¬â¢s cliche. We will write a custom essay sample on The Old Man and My Cow Suit or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page My real lesson came from standing on the curb in the Chick-fil-A cow suit, sweating the Colorado River down my face while attempting to attract customers. Nearly everybody I worked with dreaded having to be on ââ¬Å"suit duty.â⬠Itââ¬â¢s hot, itââ¬â¢s secluded from coworkers, and quite frankly, itââ¬â¢s boring. But one day, an elderly man smiled and waved at me through his window as he drove by, and then it hit me. I didnââ¬â¢t have to resent this job so much. I heard the relentlessly repeated words of my mom throughout the years ringing in my ears: ââ¬Å"Is the glass half empty, Vinny, or is it half full?â⬠And suddenly, those words finally made sense. That old man I saw, he looked so content. It was etched into his eyes and written into his smile. I realized I wanted to look back one day and feel that I achieved that same happiness. I realized that my miseryââ¬âor my happinessââ¬âwas a choice that only I could make. I realized that I needed to begin making the best of the curve balls life tends to throw my way sometimes. Every day after that, I became more emphatic while standing on the sidewalks attracting customers. I waved with more enthusiasm, and even danced around at times. Even though I was aware they could not see me through the giant cow head, I did not careââ¬âI started genuinely smiling at every person that passed by, and my new attitude carried out of the suit and into the other aspects of my job as well. Even though I was still weary of the redundant tasks of working in a fast food restaurant, I realized that I had the sole power to make the most of it. And that is exactly what I did, and plan to continue doing, even outside of the workforce. I got lost while driving once, fairly soon after getting my license, so I took the chance to explore new places. I forgot the rough draft of my English essay at home one time, so I was inspired to write something better during class. I didnââ¬â¢t score as high as I would have liked on the ACT test, so I seized the opportunity for the admitte rs at Metro State University to get to know me, as a person, a little better through a reflection on my first job. My glass is now half full, thanks to the old man and my cow suit.

The Pros and Cons of Nuclear Science Essay Example
The Pros and Cons of Nuclear Science Essay Nuclear energy is a powerful source of energy compared to other conventional fuels. All crude oil based fuels derive their energy from oxidation, which is a change in the energy levels of electrons outside the nucleus. However,à nuclear energyà derives power from changes in the nuclear energy levels of the atomic nucleus! Tremendous energy lies locked up inside a radioactive nucleus and nuclear fission is a way of tapping this energy. Nuclear power plants derive energy from controlled nuclear fission reactions. This article discusses the pros and cons of using nuclear energy. Every powerful source of energy discovered by man, comes at a price. Nuclear energy comes with its share of risks and hazards. This article discusses nuclear energy pros and cons. It explore both sides of nuclear energy, that is its upside and downside. The pros and cons of nuclear energy use, need to be put in front of our policy makers in the government. Read on, to know and understand the price we must pay for nuclear energy to work and the benefits it offers over conventional energy resources. Nuclear Energy: Pros Here are some advantages of using nuclear energy over other conventional energy sources. Phenomenal Energy Output Among the pros and cons of nuclear energy, this is the most important pro point. The energy produced in nuclear fission of fissionable material like Uranium-235, is 10 million times the energy obtained by burning same mass of coal! There are manyà uses of nuclear energy. The heat derived can be driven to power multitude of applications. If you are interested in knowing how such a phemomenal energy output is made possible, read, How does a Nuclear Power Plant Work? Low Emission Levels Nuclear fission leads to almost zero green house gas emission. So compared to conventional energy sources, nuclear fission is very clean! Reliable Energy Source Nuclear energy is a comparatively reliable energy resource, unaffected by strikes and shortages around the world, as very little is required at a time and its well distributed around the world. Nuclear Energy: Cons We will write a custom essay sample on The Pros and Cons of Nuclear Science specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on The Pros and Cons of Nuclear Science specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on The Pros and Cons of Nuclear Science specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Here are some points which illuminate the downside of nuclear energyà use. Nuclear Meltdowns and Disasters A nuclear meltdown occurs when there is an acute shortage of coolant water in the nuclear reactor. This can lead to disastrous consequences, causing a reactor equipment meltdown, exposing the world to high dosages of radioactivity. The Chernobyl disaster which killed thousands, remains a blot on the history of nuclear energy. For more information on this, read Nuclear Power Plant Disasters. There is a risk of such a disaster occurring and destroying everything in its wake. The designing and maintenance of nuclear reactors is crucial in avoiding such disasters. Radioactive Exposure The danger of radioactive exposure during mining and extraction of uranium like radioactive ores, looms in developing countries. The radioactive rubble and debris left after mining, if not properly disposed, can lead to several diseases like cancer and mutation. For more information on radioactive exposure hazards, read effects of nuclear radiation. Radioactive Waste Disposal Problems The safe disposal of radioactive waste is a major problem. Fission of a material like Uranium leaves by products, which are themselves radioactive and highly harmful to the environment. Radioactivity cannot be turned off and therefore there is no way but to bury radioactive waste, without leading to extra complications arising out of it. A Catalyst for Nuclear Weapons Proliferation Often, nuclear breeder reactor programs are smoke screen for the development ofà nuclear weapons. There is no guarantee that fissionable nuclear fuel supplied to a country will not be used to produce weapons of mass destruction like atomic bombs and hydrogen bombs! If this technology falls in the wrong hands, like fundamentalist and terrorist groups, can spell disaster for the world. So there is a considerable risk in promoting the use of technology, which makes nuclear energy possible. This compilation of pros and cons about nuclear energy will give you an idea about the measure of risk involved in nuclear energy production. I have tried to be as unbiased as possible, while discussing nuclear energy pros and cons here. There are risks involved as one can see. For more information read, Advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power. What I personally think is that nuclear energy should be an energy option, but shouldnt be the only one we are relying on for the future. After all, it is not a renewable energy resource and like crude oil, uranium like radioactive fuel sources will be exhausted one day. So nuclear energy is not a permanent solution to the energy problem but a temporary and inevitable one at best. The long term solution lies in developing technology based on renewable energy sources likeà wind energy, tidal energy andà solar energy. Hope the discussion of nuclear energy pros and cons here has put things in perspective for you.
